My husband and I bought a new house yesterday (yay, right?). We are upgrading our current home in hopes of filling the new one with mini Cash’s (yay for babies!). While I am happy and thankful for the new Casa de Cash, I had an eye-opening thought as I was walking into church today:
LORD, LET ME CHASE YOU, AND NOT THINGS.
It’s so easy to get absorbed in the pursuit of “stuff”; houses, cars, shoes, bags, and job titles. “Stuff” doesn’t have to be material, it can be: respect, acceptance, or popularity. I’m not suggesting that wanting or having any of these things is wrong. It’s just important to remember to be mindful of what is driving our desire for those things.
I remember the first time I could afford to go to a restaurant that had valet, how that made me never want to be broke again. It made me obsessive about my career, my salary, what I wore, even how I talked. My motivation wasn’t from a pure place. It wasn’t ambition, it was fear.
I never want to get so preoccupied with what I have or what I want that I forget about what’s most important. For me, that’s my faith. I want the “stuff” in my life to be the fruit of chasing love, service, a pure heart, and excellence. That’s how I pursue my work and look at God; we just bought a new home.
Greatness Awaits,
Ashley
