We’ve got +/- 90 days to land a new job in 2019 and I’m going to help you do it.
Interview intimidation, it’s a thing and it’s not just reserved for shy insecure people. Us bold, confident extroverts get it too. Especially when the room or the opportunity feels bigger than us.
⚡ News Flash ⚡ the room or the opportunity is never bigger than you.
Here’s something about hiring managers and recruiters that you’ll probably never hear them admit to:
They’re nervous too—yep, recruiters and hiring managers feel performance pressure. They’ve got to be nice, appear competent, and socialize with someone they’ve just met in order to make sure you’re willing to join the team. And please don’t let the position have been open for a long time…the pressure, Lord, the pressure.
Keep in mind, some hiring managers hate doing interviews as much as you hate being interviewed.
You might walk into an interview thinking of all of the reasons you may not get the job but the hiring manager is thinking of all of the reasons someone with your background and experience won’t take the job or won’t stay if you do.
I’ve literally, nervously walked out of interviews and said, “I sure hope we can get her to work for us,” after a great candidate knocked my socks off.
Bottom line, you’ve got two human beings going on a professional “first date” who both have something to gain from the “date” going well. I hope this helps you feel more confident and more comfortable walking into your next interview.
To feeling comfortable and confident,
Ashley
P.S. Next week I’ll tell you what hiring managers think when you negotiate.
