It really ticks me off that the new standard in recruiting is contacting or interviewing people (maybe even multiple times) without letting them know if/when they are no longer being considered.
But frustration without action is futile. Here’s what you can do if you ever get ghosted by a company to start to change this practice:
Write an online review about your experience on career sites like Glassdoor or Indeed (both are anonymous)
Here’s 3 reasons why:
1. Negative reviews hurt the company’s ability to attract top talent, so the more negative experiences are voiced in a public forum, the more incentive the company has to change its practices.
2. Most companies monitor the reviews on these sites, and for good reason, so even if it seems like your emails are going to a black hole, a public review is definitely getting seen by somebody at the company.
3. Accountability—the recruiter or hiring manager that ghosted you, could just be doing his/her job poorly so your online review can help create some much needed accountability.
This isn’t about payback or venting, but helping to create mutual respect for the time, effort, and mental space it takes to apply/interview for jobs.
Opportunity Awaits,
Ashley
