You know how this works, the path to a better job and bigger salary has an interview or two in it. And since the interview is such a huge part of getting an offer and being able to negotiate a great salary, let’s talk about an easy way to get multiple interviews with the quickness…
Go to a career fair or networking event. I know what you’re thinking. I too hate career fairs and networking events but they are a GREAT place to get some interview practice in.
Think about how an interview works, you have to:
- Meet someone new and create a great first impression
- Talk about yourself and background without boring the other person to death
- Show that you’re the best fit for the opportunity
Well guess what, you do the same thing at a career fair/networking event including speaking with a potential decision maker! So if you haven’t been to an interview in a while, this is a great way to go on an informal interview and practice without the pressure.
Plus, you get to choose, what event, when you go, how long you stay, and who you talk to rather than waiting on an employer to contact you. If you bomb the first chat, no biggie, choose another person and try again. If you nail it, you’ve created some additional opportunities for yourself.
Sounds like a win to me!
To practice without pressure,
Ashley
