My friends and I joke all the time about all the things we used to do as young, broke 20 year olds. Now that we’re all a little older and less broke, there’s a long list of things that we “just don’t do.” Things like eat at Taco Bell, drink bottom shelf liquor, stand in line to get in anywhere, or stay in a hotel room with 8 people. And while I really can’t entertain sharing a hotel room with 8 friends, I couldn’t help but think about simpler times before we were all worried about careers, 401k’s, and car pools.
Silly, fun, beach bum. That was me before I started working for the man and starting my own business. Clumsy, sensitive, adventurous, that’s still me I’m talking about. When did I become practical and sensible? When did I become a job title? Probably somewhere after my wedding and before my first big promotion at work.
Passion and purpose seem to be hot topics these days. There are tons of books and quizzes on the topic geared to help you find yours. Have you ever asked yourself, “Who was I before I was a ______?” insert your title(s) here (mom, husband, wife, and dad also count). If finding your calling is plaguing you, look backwards and dig deep. What were the things that made you who you are, when that’s all you had to be? As with most of life’s tough questions, the answer is already inside of you.
Greatness Awaits,
Ashley
