Last week I told you how I got rejected all summer for speaking gigs. But guess what, the story has a happy ending. And no, I didn’t all of a sudden get asked to speak at those events…it’s still a no.
But I did get invited to a pre-event happy hour where I met all of the event organizers, speakers, and sponsors…it was a connection and networking extravaganza!!
Here are 3 lessons I learned to make rejection work for me rather than against me. Like to hear it, here it goes:
- Extend the conversation – A no can lead to a yes, ask about other opportunities you’d be a fit for, and an introduction to the decision-maker.
- Create a relationship – now you’ve got an inside connection in the organization and a new person in your network. Add them on LinkedIn, check in from time to time to keep the relationship relevant and top of mind.
- Circle back – that opportunity didn’t work out, but it doesn’t mean the next one won’t. Use the newly formed relationship to check in about new opportunities or to connect with other people in your network.
Have you ever made rejection work for you? Reply and tell me how!
