I’ve noticed a trend lately where companies reach out to you via LinkedIn but don’t bother to reply to a response or worse scheduling interviews then radio silence afterward.
I reached out to some of my recruiter friends to find out why because ghosting is seriously so frustrating and discouraging. Like, if I didn’t get the job, just tell me, right?!
Here’s the most consistent feedback I’ve gotten about why ghosting happens:
Time & Money—between their heavy workload, short timelines, and metrics, like most of us, they are short on time. Layer in commission or bonuses tied to how many candidates they hire, there’s more incentive to spend their time getting the position filled rather than answering follow up emails.
Does that make it ok? Nope, because I believe there’s always room for professionalism and common courtesy.
We are not powerless in this. So next week I’ll share what you can do the next time you get ghosted.
Cheers to taking our power back!
Ashley
P.S.
Speaking of taking our power back, on 7/16 I’m hosting a free live class to show you what you can do to get more interviews, more offers, and more money for yourself. The class is free but you have to register to attend.
